The Huawei recently launched the new P Smart 2021, evidence of how the brand can continue to produce good equipment, even with the ban imposed by the United States on the use of services created in the country.

The new Huawei P Smart 2021, is thus the new bet for the mid-range smartphone market, an area where it has always presented itself with great strength, since the famous P8 Lite and later the P Smart.

In this new equipment, the Chinese brand bet on what users are looking for most, a good camera system, supported by Artificial Intelligence, and a 5000 mAh battery that promises to have very good autonomy for normal day-to-day use.

The Huawei chose to bring this equipment a simple and contemporary design, with everything that today’s smartphones are available. In the front part we can see a screen that occupies practically the whole area, surrounded by black borders. On top of this, there is also a small hole in the center where the selfie camera is located, causing no problem in viewing video content.

At the rear we find a plastic construction that will be available in three colors, black, green and gold, all of them with some shine and half mirror.

At the top left of the rear area is a four-camera module, much like the Huawei P40 launched in the first months of this year. In this set we can also find the Flash LED and an insignia that says “48MP AI QUAD CAMERA”, one of the main points of interest of the equipment.

The side buttons are all on the right side of the P Smart 2021. On this side we find the on / off button with fingerprint reading capability and the volume buttons. On the left side there is a slot for two SIM cards and an SD card.

Finally, at the bottom is the USB Type-C input for charging and data transfer, the speaker and a 3.5mm jack input for those who like to use wired headsets.

OP Smart 2021 arrives with a 6.67 inch screen, one of the largest of the brand since the launch of the first model of P Smart’s, a point in favor, at least for those who like large smartphones. It has a TFT LCD panel with a resolution of 2400 by 1080 and a 20: 9 aspect ratio.

Screens with these dimensions and characteristics are very good for those who like, or use, the smartphone for viewing video content, where we have a large viewing area. Videos from Youtube, Netflix and even game streams have good image quality and good details about what we are seeing.

It has a capacity of 442nits in terms of screen brightness, which is a good result for such a screen. Compared to previous models, the difference will not be much, but it is always good to see improved features.

In colors, Huawei basically used the same technology used in previous models, with two modes: Natural and Vivid; each with a Standard, Hot or Cold selector, plus a color wheel for custom settings. For many users this function will not even be discovered, but it can always be useful for those who understand more about this subject and have more attention to the details of the image.

Software and Performance

When it comes to processing, the P Smart 2021 comes with the Huawei Kirin 710A chip with eight cores, four 2.0 GHz and four 1.7 GHz, accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

As an operating system we have the famous EMUI 10.1 from Huawei itself , based on Android 10. It still has the functions and design already known to the brand, but still with the problem of not arriving with Google services, which for many is an obstacle.

To overcome the lack of Google services, Huawei continues to work on the Petal Search application, which helps any user to find the application that is not available in the Huawei application store . At first, using Petal Search can be a little confusing, but we can easily get used to it. Many of the applications we use on a day-to-day basis can be found from this search engine, which makes it a lot easier, in addition to being available almost all applications on the Play Store.

In the gaming experience, the P Smart 2021 performed well, running some of the heaviest games without major problems. This can be a good device for those who like to play on the smartphone without having to choose one of the more expensive devices.

With regard to cameras, the new Huawei arrives with a set of four sensors, each for a specific function. In addition to both working together for an image with the best possible quality, they also have functions such as high definition photographs, Ultra Wide Angle, Bokeh or Macro.

The AI system integrated in the camera is undoubtedly an asset, helping the smartphone to adapt the photos in order to have the best possible quality.

The main camera with 48MP, captures images with good quality and with more natural color tones. Also, the ultra-angular lens offers a good image for photographs of buildings or a large group of people, with image capture at an angle of 120º.

Despite arriving with the night mode, a good choice of the brand for this model, the expected images will not be the best, this is because in low light environments, the photos seem to come out a little grainy.

Finally, the macro and depth lenses, 2MP each, offer good images with bokeh effects, with a good natural blur on the back of the image, and the macro mode with good captures in smaller objects, ensuring good details.

The selfie camera with 8 MP will be one of the strengths of this smartphone aimed at the youngest who use social networks a lot, with a capture of images with 3264 × 2448 pixels of resolution and videos in 1080p. According to the brand, this will be a very good piece of equipment for users and video creators for TikTok, the social network that has grown the most in recent months.

In addition to the cameras, the battery of the new P Smart 2021 also arrives with good features, having a capacity of 5000 mAh, a very good number for those looking for a device with a good battery for the whole day. This is assisted by Artificial Intelligence, which ensures that the equipment’s resources are used in the most efficient way, turning off the use of energy when certain functions are turned off.

In conjunction with the smartphone, a USB-C charger with 22.5W of power comes in the box, which guarantees a 46% charge in 30 minutes, according to the brand, a statement that we can confirm after our tests.

More precisely, in our tests we started charging the P Smart 2021 with 10% battery and it took about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach 100%, which we think is a reasonable time for this type of equipment.

For consumption of videos or music, the P Smart 2021 is, in my opinion, a simple smartphone, which offers reasonable sound quality for normal use. It has only one speaker at the bottom, near the USB-C port, which is standard in the various devices on the market.
